The Board of Trustees for the Kenora Catholic District School Board are pleased to announce that we have accepted an offer to purchase Mount Carmel School and associated properties says Darryl Michaluk, Chair. The trustees met on Tuesday, November 24th at St. Thomas Aquinas High School for a Special Meeting of the Board where the offer of $100 from Wayne and Lea Degagne was accepted by the Board.
We have been trying to sell the school and associated properties for almost 3 years and after two searches and tens of thousands of dollars yearly to maintain the site we are very pleased to finally have a local purchaser says Darryl Michaluk.
Phyllis Eikre, Director of Education says there is certainly a cost associated with maintaining the property despite the fact that it’s not currently occupied or used by the Board. It really is wonderful that the site will no longer sit empty. It has been a pleasure to work with Wayne and Lea Degagne through this purchase and we are pleased to hand over the keys to the new owners.
We are pleased to purchase the historical site and are looking forward to beginning our plans for development. We’d like to thank the Kenora Catholic District School Board for their time and effort towards the completion of the purchase says Wayne and Lea Degagne.
Eikre says that it’s the culmination of countless meetings, phone calls and years of hard work by our Trustees and many other members of our administration that finally brought this sale to fruition. A special thank you to Andrew Poirier, Manager of Operational Services and Erica Bailey, Superintendent of Administrative Services for their dedicated leadership throughout this process.
