Help Us Stay Connected with you by Email and Texts

The Kenora Catholic District School Board and its schools are compliant with the Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation.  Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) came into effect on July 1, 2014.  Under the legislation all staff, school councils and trustees are prohibited from sending commercial electronic messages (CEMs) that encourage recipients to participate in a commercial activity unless they have the recipient's expressed consent.

Our schools and school councils routinely send Commercial Electronic Messages (CEMs).  Examples of CEMs include emails to inform parents of offers for the sale of things such as yearbooks, lunch programs, school photos, field trips, school fundraisers, prom or dance tickets, athletic events, musical productions and any other announcements or offers of a commercial nature.

What does this mean for parents and guardians?

It means that we need your permission to send you commercial emails.  We want to keep you informed about what's happening at your child's school and the board.  Email and other electronic messages are often the best way to stay connected.

If you would like to ensure that you are receiving these types of emails please subscribe to receive commercial emails through our Commercial Email and Text Alert Subscription website.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  What will happen if I don't subscribe?  If you choose not to subscribe to receive commercial emails you will continue to receive emails about general announcements, attendance and emergencies.  You will not receive commercial email announcements.

Q:  What happens if I have multiple children enroled in different schools at the KCDSB?  If you have children enroled in different schools within the KCDSB you only have to subscribe your email once.  Our system will consider your email address 'subscribed' for all children associated with that specific email address.

Q:  I have multiple email addresses.  Which one do I use to subscribe?  You can only subscribe the email address that you have on record at your child's school.  This would be the same email address that you already receive non-commercial emails on.

Q:  Does CASL apply to Home Notes and Voicemail Messages too?  No.  CASL only  applies to commercial electronic messages (texts and emails).

Q:  What happens if I have a new email address?  Can I update it in the Commercial Email and Texts Alerts Subscription Website?  No.  You will need to contact your child's school and have your email address updated in your child's school record.  Once your email address is updated you will need to wait 24 hours before you can subscribe to receive commercial emails on your new email address.

Q:  I tried to subscribe and I got an error message.  What do I do now?  Don't worry.  We are here to help you through this process.  Please call your child's school for assistance.
