2016 Trustees

PRESENTATIONS

Introduction of the New Student Trustee for the 2016 - 2017 School Year
Angela Myshkowsky introduced Jieren Bornia as the new incoming Student Trustee for the 2016 - 2017 school year. Angela shared that Jieren is an amazing faith leader in the school and will serve the board well as the new student trustee.

REPORTS

2016 - 2020 Capital Plan
Andrew Poirier, Manager of Operational Services provided a presentation to the board on the 2016 - 2020 Capital Plan. Poirier presented that there 67 projects identified in the capital plan amounting to

$5, 883,000 in upgrades throughout the system.

2016 - 2017 Budget
Alison Smith, Manager of Financial Services provided a presentation on the 2016 - 2017 budget. Alison presented that the board has a projected enrollment of 1,538 students which is stable across the board. The board is also observing an accumulated surplus of $67,153 for the 2016/17 school year. The budget is in compliance with Ministry of Education requirements.

Borrowing Resolution
The trustees passed a motion to accept the Borrowing Resolution with the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce for $3,000,000 for the board's operating line of credit. In a presentation to the Board Alison Smith shared that the board is currently using $0.00 of this operating line of credit. The funds have been used from time to time to manage temporary differences in cash flows or to manage short-term finances of small capital projects.

Retirement of Sister Maria Ciccarelli
Phyllis Eikre provided a presentation to the board sharing that Sister Maria Ciccarelli, snjm has served the board for 29 years most recently as the Religious Education Coordinator. Phyllis then provided a biographical overview celebrating Sister Maria's vocation with the board. Frank Bastone presented Sister Maria with an engraved school bell. School Council and Catholic Parent Involvement Committee Reports
Phyllis Eikre provided the trustees with a copy of each school's year-end school council reports for the 2015/16 school year. The reports can be found on each school's website.

Special Education Annual Review
Chris Moorley, Special Education Coordinator provided a presentation on the Special Education Annual Review and the changes that have been made to the Special Education Manual. Moorley identified that one of the most significant changes is that all the associated forms have now been digitized and moved to the board's controlled forms process.

Trustee Teresa Gallik shared that the Special Education Advisory Committee had bookmarks created that were sent home in all report cards to help promote the role and function of the committee.

Canadian Catholic School Trustees' Annual General Meeting Report

Phyllis Eikre provided a full written report on the OCSTA AGM held in Yellowknife, NWT on June 9 - 11th. In addition to Phyllis Eikre, trustees Teresa Gallik, Paul Landry and Vaughn Blab attended the conference. The theme of the conference was 'Walk in the Light' and had various keynote speakers and breakout sessions.

Student Trustee Report

Student Trustee Angela Myshkowsky provided her final report as the student trustee for the 2015 / 2016 school year. Angela reported on the notable accomplishments, humanitarian activities and events happening at St. Thomas Aquinas High School during May.

Frank Bastone presented Angela with a plaque to recognize her contributions as Student Trustee for the 2016/17 school year. You can watch Angela's full video report here.

Next Board Meeting

The Next Board Meeting of the Kenora Catholic District School Board is scheduled for Thursday, September 22nd at 7:00 p.m. at the Catholic Education Center. Video Conferencing is available from the annex at St. John School in Red Lake. Everyone is welcome to attend.
