Nurturing Healthy Lifestyles and Skills
Supporting students in developing healthy lifestyles is important. Building a life-long love of sport helps encourage regular physical activity, and for many Canadian students, hockey is a natural fit.
KCDSB schools offer a Hockey Skills Development Program that gives students the opportunity to skate, shoot, and build foundational hockey skills during the school day. Alongside skill development, the program supports important life skills such as teamwork, time management, responsibility, and commitment. Students learn to balance their learning with practice time in a structured and supportive environment.
First introduced at St. Louis School during the 2016–2017 school year, the program was expanded in 2017 to all Kenora Catholic elementary schools in Kenora due to its strong participation and positive response. The Hockey Skills Development Program promotes physical activity, healthy habits, and learning, while keeping students engaged and having fun.
