St. Louis Living Arts School (STL), in collaboration with Women's Shelter, Saakaate House, proudly participated in this year’s Kenora and Lake of the Woods Regional Community Foundation Festival of Trees. Together, they created an eco-friendly "Gifting Tree" that embodies a shared commitment to caring for the earth and fostering a sense of community.

Inspired by this year’s theme, "Holiday Dreams at the Lake," the tree was adorned with meaningful, handcrafted decorations that celebrate nature and sustainability. Students and members of Saakaate House worked together to design ornaments such as clay fish, driftwood and sea glass trees, beeswax snowflakes, birdseed wreaths, felted wool stars, tins of orange lavender salve, and bags of Winter Dreams Mulling Spices.

The tree was showcased at the Festival of Trees Gala Event and quickly became a highlight of the evening. It received the highest bid of the night—an incredible $1,500—and was generously donated by a group of anonymous Kenora families to the Moncrief Construction Sports Centre, where it will be enjoyed by the entire community throughout the holiday season.
