The Kenora Catholic District School Board is pleased to announce that Mark Richards has been appointed as the next Principal of St. Thomas Aquinas High School, effective July 1, 2025.
Mark is a long-standing member of the St. Thomas Aquinas High School (STAHS) community, having served as Vice Principal since 2021. With more than a decade of experience in education, he brings a strong commitment to Catholic values, student success, school safety and servant leadership.
“It is with great confidence and enthusiasm that we welcome Mark Richards as the new Principal of St. Thomas Aquinas High School,” says Jamey Robertson, Superintendent of Education. “Mark is a dedicated Catholic leader whose work is grounded in Catholic social teachings.
He brings a calm and thoughtful presence to leadership, along with excellent communication skills and a strong capacity for collaborative decision-making. His commitment to lifelong learning and continuous growth allows him to lead with humility and purpose, always focused on what is best for students, staff, and the broader school community.
We are confident that under Mark’s leadership, STAHS will continue to thrive as a place of academic excellence, spiritual development, and inclusive community.”
In addition to his current role as Vice Principal at St. Thomas Aquinas High School, Mark has taught across multiple divisions and holds qualifications including Principal’s Qualification Program I and II, an Integration of Information and Computer Technology Specialist designation, and degrees in Mathematics and Education.
“I approach the role of Principal at St. Thomas Aquinas High School with deep gratitude and respect for a community that I have been proud to be part of for many years,” says Mark Richards. “I believe in leading with compassion, clarity, and a deep commitment to Catholic education. Our school community is built on a foundation of care, collaboration, and high expectations. A central part of that foundation is a deep commitment to student safety and well-being — ensuring every student feels secure, supported, and ready to learn. Together, we will continue to foster a learning environment where all students feel valued, inspired, and empowered to reach their full potential.”
The Kenora Catholic District School Board congratulates Mark Richards on his appointment and looks forward to his continued leadership at St. Thomas Aquinas High School. He will take over the role from Kylie Hughes, who has been named the new Superintendent of Education effective the 2025–2026 school year.
