Last night, the staff from the Catholic Education Centre gathered for a special evening of celebration and reflection—an opportunity to honour the incredible individuals who make our school communities shine.

The event was a bittersweet occasion as we bid farewell to four beloved retirees:
Leanne Chisholm, Nancy Barclay, Nicole Kurtz, and Cathy McQuillan.
Their years of service, leadership, and dedication have left an indelible mark, and we are grateful for the impact they’ve had on students, staff, and families alike.

We also recognized staff members for their milestone years of service:
⭐ 10 Years of Service: Denise Chmeliuk
⭐ 15 Years of Service: Alison Smith
⭐ 25 Years of Service: Dallis Novelli

CEC Retirees

A special highlight of the evening was the presentation of the inaugural Light of Community Award, which celebrates staff members who, like Jesus, bring light to those around them by building community, fostering connection, and lifting others up. Congratulations to the first recipients of this award:

This award recognizes individuals who:

  • Strengthen relationships across their school or site

  • Encourage teamwork and collaboration

  • Create a safe, inclusive, and welcoming culture

  • Support others through kindness, care, and connection

These individuals help shape the heart of our Catholic learning communities and reflect the values of compassion, service, and faith in action.

 

Light of Community Award

In addition to our Catholic Education Centre celebration, each KCDSB school is also honouring staff members who are receiving Years of Service Awards and recognizing recipients of the Light of Community Award—a beautiful tradition that celebrates the heart and soul of our Catholic learning communities.

To all our honourees—thank you for your service, your example, and your dedication to the mission of Catholic education.
