Students Inspired and Captivated by Canada's First Woman Astronaut

Students in Grades 6 - 8 from across the KCDSB were inspired and captivated today by Dr. Roberta Bondar. The distinguished astronaut is Canada's first woman in space. She flew 25 years ago aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery. She circled the earth 129 times at 17, 000 miles per hour or 8 kilometers a second.

Dr. Bondar shared stories and videos about her time in space and also talked about the launch of Ontario 150 Bondar Challenge which encourage students of all ages to express what they admire and value in the natural world through photography. The tour celebrates the 25th anniversary of her historic spaceflight and Ontario's 150th anniversary.

The presentation took place at Pope John Paul II School.

Everyone is invited to participate in the challenge. Click on the link to read more about the Ontario 150 Bondar Challenge.
