Grade 9 students from St. Thomas Aquinas High School enjoyed taking a break from the classroom this week for the annual NET Retreat.

"We really took the time to get to know each other better and think a lot about how we can use our friends and God to help us through our lives," said Grade 9 student Maxwell Froese. "We played lots of games and they told us lots of different stories that happened during their life."

The National Evangelization Team (NET) is a group of young adults who serve as missionaries traveling around Canada to do retreats and events for schools and parishes to evangelize and spread the Good News of God's love. Their stop in Kenora is part of their cross-country tour and has been taking place for a number of years now.

"They're fun," said Froese about the NET missionaries. "They're down to earth so they know what we're going through so that's neat."

The majority of the missionaries are all in their early 20s and can relate to a lot of the issues that affect teenagers. The retreat was filled with fun games, skits and activities that got students up and moving, and also interacting with students they may not always speak to.

"It's definitely a different experience compared to sitting at school. It was nice to hear about what they've been through and they're trying to help us," concluded Froese.
