2020 - 2021 Possible Models for a Return to Learning

The Ministry of Education has released three potential models for a return to learning for the 2020-2021 school year. In order to help families prepare for the upcoming year, we wanted to share information about each of the models so families know what options are being considered (see graphics below). The Ministry of Education has indicated they will let school boards know which of the three models we will be following during the first week of August. Once that decision has been made, we will communicate with families which of the models we will be using for the start of the school year. Please see the bullets below for additional information around a return to learning and the 2020-2021 school year.

  • A return to our buildings is voluntary. Parents/guardians are able to choose whether they will send their child to school or not in the fall should models 1 or 2 be chosen by the Ministry of Education. For students who will not be physically returning to our schools, we will continue to offer distance learning opportunities (see Model 3 graphic for more information)
  • Information in the graphics for the three models is subject to change as information is released and the impact of the COVID-19 virus evolves.
  • Depending on public health recommendations and spread of the virus, families should be aware that next school year could ultimately see a combination of the three models. Our schools will be flexible and adjust to any changes in the delivery of education as needed.
  • Kenora Catholic is working with other area school boards to ensure consistency for families for the 2020-2021 school year as much as possible.

Once a decision is announced by the Ministry of Education in early August with regards to which model our schools will follow, we will share detailed plans for your child(ren)’s school with you. Following the release of those plans, we will once again be surveying families to find out if you plan to send your child to school should Model 1 or 2 be announced. Your response to this survey will be critical to our planning, particularly for cohorting of students, if needed, and school bus transportation.

As per direction from the Ministry of Education, once the model for schools is announced and detailed information is shared, families should be aware that there will be a deadline (date to be announced in early August) to let us know if you plan to send their children to school. Families who do not respond by that date may not be able to start school on the first day, but would be able to start at a later date as determined by their school.
