Festival du Voyageur Brings Warmth and Joy to École Ste Marguerite Bourgeoys
École Ste Marguerite Bourgeoys hosted its annual Festival du Voyageur, welcoming families, neighbours, and friends from across the community for an evening filled with tradition, French culture, and shared celebration. Even with the crisp winter weather, the schoolyard was full of laughter, music, bonfires, and the comforting smells of classic festival foods.
Festival du Voyageur is an important cultural event for the school and community. It celebrates the history of the voyageurs and helps students connect with the French and Métis traditions that have shaped this region for generations. The event brings heritage to life in a hands-on way, giving students and families a chance to experience the teamwork, resilience, and spirit that defined the voyageurs.
Families enjoyed stepping into that history through fun activities such as tug of war, canoe pulls through the snow, and the crowd-favourite team plank walk where students worked together to move across the field. Warm fires glowed throughout the yard, offering a gathering place to enjoy lively music, conversation, and a chance to warm up between activities.
The evening also featured classic festival foods that added to the cozy atmosphere. Guests enjoyed hot chocolate, hearty chili, freshly made bannock, beavertails, and sweet treats from La cabane à sucre.
Principal Hilary Aitken shared her gratitude for the strong turnout. “The cold weather did not stop our incredible families from coming out to celebrate with us last night. The warmth of community, laughter, and delicious treats made it a night to remember.”
The event was supported by dedicated volunteers. People left with full hearts, big smiles, and a deeper connection to the school and wider community.
As Hilary added, “From lively music to engaging games, the festival was full of joy, smiles, and a true spirit of celebration. Thank you to everyone who braved the chill to join us and to all our amazing volunteers and organizers who made this event a success. Let’s carry this warmth and energy with us as we head into the rest of the season. Merci beaucoup for being part of such a magical night.”
Festival du Voyageur continues to be a cherished tradition at École Ste Marguerite Bourgeoys, offering students, families, and the entire community a meaningful way to celebrate culture, connection, and the joy of being together.
