KCDSB Commemorates National Truth and Reconciliation Day on Monday, September 30th
 (3 x 2 in).png)
Throughout the school year, KCDSB students engage in various cultural activities to prepare for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. From Pow Wows and traditional feasts to Northern Studies programs, students have the opportunity to connect with and learn about Indigenous histories and cultures. These experiences foster a deeper understanding of First Nations and Métis communities, building respect and empathy. By participating in these events and educational opportunities, students not only prepare for the significance of September 30 but also engage in ongoing learning and reflection on reconciliation throughout the entire school year.
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
On September 30, we will join the nation in observing this important day with deeper understanding. This is a time to reflect on the role we all play in fostering respect for First Nations, Métis, and Inuit histories, cultures, and perspectives. By creating compassionate and inclusive spaces, we not only encourage learning but also take steps on the path to healing and reconciliation. Thank you for your continued commitment as we honour this day together.
Every Staff and Student Gets an Orange Shirt
Students, staff and families are encouraged to wear orange shirts on September 30 to show solidarity with survivors and their families. This gesture honours Phyllis Webstad's story and the many children affected by the residential school system.
Last year, each student received an orange T-shirt featuring KCDSB Graduate, Kitana Blackhawk’s design.
All new students this year will also receive a t-shirt. We invite your child to wear their orange T-shirt on Monday, September 30th!
