Patrick Hunter Inspires Students Through Art

Patrick Hunter Workshop
Students at STAHS had a unique opportunity to learn from a celebrated Canadian artist this week. Patrick Hunter, a two-spirit, Ojibwe painter, graphic designer, and award-winning entrepreneur from Red Lake, Ontario, spent the day leading two art workshops—one for Grades 7-8 in the morning and another for Grades 9-12 in the afternoon.

When asked about his favourite part of working with students, Hunter shared, "Seeing how everyone's finished piece is similar but different, and they all put their own unique spin on my feather design. It blows my mind to see their different colour combinations."

Hunter, known for his striking artwork inspired by his Ojibwe roots, guided students through a painting workshop featuring his signature feather design. As students worked on their pieces, they experimented with colours and techniques, resulting in a collection of beautiful and completely unique works of art.

Beyond learning artistic techniques, students were inspired by Hunter’s journey—his passion for art, his commitment to Indigenous representation in mainstream culture, and his belief that art has the power to bring people together.

The day was a memorable one, leaving students not only with incredible artwork but also with a deeper appreciation for creativity, self-expression, and the stories art can tell.
