Kylie Hughes Announced as Incoming Principal for St. Thomas Aquinas High School

Kylie Hughes and Travis BattersTravis Batters and Kylie HughesThe Kenora Catholic District School Board is pleased to announce that Kylie Hughes has been appointed as Principal of St. Thomas Aquinas High School, and Travis Batters has been appointed as Vice Principal of Pope John Paul II School, St. Isidore Virtual School and St. Thomas Aquinas High School. The appointments are effective for the 2021/22 school year.

“We are blessed to continue our vision of excellence in Catholic education by positioning our schools with strong, passionate and committed Catholic leaders,” says Paul White, Director of Education. “Both Kylie Hughes and Travis Batters are administrators who have been developed from within the system and have incredible instructional knowledge both at the elementary and secondary panels and a history of dedication, loyalty, enthusiasm and passion for student success, well-being and strong relationships in the schools, community and with our Catholic parishes.”

Kylie Hughes has 15 years of experience at St. Thomas Aquinas High School, and has served as a Vice Principal, Teacher and Guidance Counsellor, School Mental Health Champion and has held many other portfolios. Kylie has helped set the direction for the school community using a shared vision and her leadership skills and strong faith will help her to continue the high standards of academic excellence at St. Thomas Aquinas High School.

Travis Batters is a strong Catholic leader with over 14 years of experience between St. Thomas Aquinas High School and Pope John Paul II School and has held the roles of Vice Principal, Elementary and Secondary Teacher and Area Chair for Athletics. As a highly regarded member of administration, Travis will bring a wealth of knowledge and strength to the schools in remote learning and technology as well as student success and faith development.

 Travis Batters “I am truly excited to move into this new leadership role at where I can support students, families and staff at Pope John Paul II School, St. Isidore Virtual School and St. Thomas Aquinas High School as a Vice Principal. Moving to Pope John Paul II School, where I started my career, and being able to work with the dedicated and passionate team at PJP II, is such a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with staff and make new connections with families and students. Tammy Bush’s energy, warmth, and passion for promoting learning and creating relationships makes her a tremendous Principal and I’m looking forward to working with her and the PJP II school community. I am also pleased to join St. Isidore School and continue to support St. Thomas Aquinas High School with Kylie Hughes as we continue our work in excellence in Catholic education in academics, arts and athletics where students are supported to explore pathways to reach their fullest potential.” – Travis Batters 

Kylie Hughes and Travis Batters are currently Vice Principals at St. Thomas Aquinas High School and will remain in their roles, providing stability and support to the school for the remainder of the 2020 – 2021 school year. This announcement follows the recent appointment of Nicole Kurtz, Principal of St. Thomas Aquinas High School to the position of Superintendent of Instructional Services beginning in the new school year.

Kenora Catholic will be posting for a 1.0 Vice Principal role at St. Thomas Aquinas High School.
