Board Improvement Plan for Student Achievement and Well-being

Paul White, Superintendent of Instructional Services, provided a report on the Board Improvement Plan for Student Achievement and Well-being (BIPSA). White shared that all the School Improvement Plans inform the development of the Board Improvement Plan, creating consistency across the system. All plans will be closely monitored throughout the year to measure progress in achieving goals. Click here to read the plan.

AnishinaabeTrustees thank Wauzhushk Onigum for Fall Harvest.jpg Omiinigoziin niin App Demonstration

Shelly Tom, First Nation, Métis and Inuit Education Coordinator and Paul White, Superintendent of Instructional Services, provided trustees with a hands-on demonstration of the board's Anishinaabe Omiinigoziin niin App. The App is now available for download for iOS devices free at the Apple App Store. The aim of the App is to provide a resource in the local dialect of the Treaty #3 area to help students and their families learn the Anishinaabemowin language, traditions and culture. The App is used in classrooms across the Kenora Catholic DistrictClick here to learn more.

Fall Harvest Partnership with Wauzhushk Onigum Nation

MembersStudent Trustees.jpg School Board. of Wauzhushk Onigum Nation, including Elders Terry Skead and Jeanette Skead, as well as Wendy Kuczma and Micaiah Skead, were honoured and thanked by Kenora Catholic Trustees for hosting the Fall Harvest for over 12 years. Hundreds of Kenora Catholic students have benefited from the opportunity to visit pow wow Island and learn about the traditional and cultural fall preparations. Click here to learn more.

Student Trustee Report

Student Trustees, Clareynze Ceria and Julia Tkachuk, provided a report on the notable accomplishments, humanitarian activities and events happening at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in November and highlighted upcoming events. Click here to read their full report.

Policy #9 - Board Operations

The Trustees passed a motion to approve the review of Policy #9 - Board Operations with no revisions at this time.

2018 - 2019 Audited Financial Statements

Jennifer Pyzer of BDO Canada LLP provided a report on the 2018 - 2019 Audited Financial Statements. For the year ending August 31, 2019, the Kenora Catholic District School Board has an annual surplus of $446, 108 and an accumulated surplus of $5,900,077. Kenora Catholic is compliant with Ministry of Education legislation. Click here to view the 2018 - 2019 Audited Financial Statements.

Ontario Catholic School Trustees' Association Regional Director's Report

Frank Bastone provided an Ontario Catholic School Trustees' Association Regional Director's Report from the November 14th teleconference meetings. The Political Advocacy Meeting addressed topics including a PPM regarding service animals, accessibility standards, Autism Task Force, Grants for Student Needs consultations, school bus safety and student transportation, access to copy right as well as cybersecurity.

The Budget Human Relations Sub Committee meeting that followed addressed budget related items

at the OCSTA. The next meeting is scheduled for December 6 and following that is the Trustee Professional Development Session in January 2020.

Special Education Advisory Committee Report

Trustee Anne Sweeney provided a report on the October 18, 2019 Special Education Advisory Committee Meeting held at the Catholic Education Center. The Special Education Advisory Committee meets monthly throughout the school year. The minutes of meetings can be found on Kenora Catholic's website under Programs. December Board Meeting

The Trustees passed a motion to change the start time of the December 10, 2019 Board Meeting from 7:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

January Board Meeting

The Trustees passed a motion to change the date of the Regular Board Meeting scheduled for Tuesday, January 21, 2020 to Tuesday, January 28, 2020.

Christmas Concert and Celebration Schedule

The Trustees were provided with a schedule of all Christmas Concerts and Advent Liturgies in the month of December. Click here to see the schedule.

Next Board Meeting

The Annual Board Meeting of the Kenora Catholic District School Board is scheduled for Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. at the Catholic Education Center in Kenora. At this meeting, the elections for the position of Chair and Vice Chair will take place. Everyone is welcome to attend.
