mer Student Trustee and St. Thomas Aquinas High School Alumnus, Dr. Anthony Silva, recently received provincial recognition as a distinguished alumnus. He was honoured by the Ontario Catholic School Trustees’ Association with the 2018 Student Alumnus Award.
The award is presented to Catholic school graduates who serve as student trustee at a secondary school level and since graduation have demonstrated, through their actions, the values articulated in the Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectations Framework.
Dr. Anthony Silva served as student trustee for Kenora Catholic in 2003 in his graduating year from St. Thomas Aquinas High School.
"We are very proud of all of Dr. Silva’s accomplishments when he was a student within our system and since graduation," said Frank Bastone, Chair. "Dr. Silva is a shining example of the types of characteristics and values that we strive to instill in our Catholic graduates and we are very proud to recognize his achievements with this award."
The award was presented to Carlos and Maria Silva, Anthony’s parents, at the June 19, 2018 Board Meeting.
In a video greeting, Dr. Anthony said, "what an honour it is to be receiving this award tonight. I always look back very fondly at my time as a student trustee and know that I developed a lot of important skills and attributes as a result of this position. I think the most important thing I took away from it was the reinforcement of the Catholic values I was brought up with both at home and within the school system. I really think it has helped lead me to the privileged position I have found myself in today, working as a doctor and helping people in their time of need, when they are unwell or injured. I don’t think there is any doubt what a positive influence my Catholic education and my time as a student trustee have had on my life and hopefully as a result, the lives of those around me. What an absolute honour to be selected as a recipient of this award."
Anthony Silva works at the Gold Coast University Hospital as an Orthopaedic Doctor. He holds a Bachelor (Honours) and a Master of Science from Queen’s University, a Bachelor of Medicine/ Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Queensland.
