Focusing on Fundamental Math

Temple reported that the board is implementing recommendations and interventions from data collected during the board's research partnership with Lakehead University's Faculty of Education.  Temple shared that the research identified that students at Kenora Catholic have strong connections and relationships with their teachers but they sometimes don't like math or feel confident with math. At the beginning of the 2018 – 2019 School Year, Kenora Catholic is adding a Math Support teacher in each elementary school to provide extra support for teachers and students.  The board will also be setting up a tutoring system for students at St. Thomas Aquinas High School and will continue the research project with Lakehead University to gather data and explore different ways to support students in increasing math confidence.
