Ventilation Strategy

Ventilation Strategy

Over the past two years, the Ministry of Education has provided investments to help improve ventilation and air quality in all our schools and facilities. At the Kenora Catholic District School Board, we have implemented various measures and strategies to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission and support a healthier and safer learning environment for all students and staff.

Ventilation Strategy

The Kenora Catholic District School Board has two areas of focus for the board’s ventilation strategy, we focus on ventilation and filtration. The following is what the board is currently doing to optimize indoor air quality in our schools:

  • Enhanced maintenance and servicing of all HVAC units and air handling units
  • Changed the building automation systems to run the ventilation system two hours before and after the school is occupied
  • Increased the volume and frequency of outdoor, fresh air intake
  • Purchased an inventory of filters for all HVAC units, air handling units, and portable HEPA units
  • Increased the frequency that filters are changed. Filters are also inspected on a regular basis to ensure optimal air filtration
  • Installed portable HEPA units in all classrooms and in common areas in the schools, such as gymnasiums, learning commons and staff rooms
