Swimming Lessons – Lifesaving Skills for Life

With countless lakes, rivers, and water access points across Northwestern Ontario, water safety is essential. For over 30 years, the Kenora Catholic District School Board has been committed to teaching students lifesaving swimming skills, ensuring they have the knowledge and confidence to stay safe in and around water.

Certified Swimming Lessons for KCDSB Students

Who participates?

All students from Kindergarten to Grade 6 take part in certified Red Cross Swimming Lessons as part of their education at KCDSB.Swimming Lessons at KCDSB

What students learn:

Water safety awareness – Learning how to be safe in and around water.
Red Cross Levelled Lessons – Progressive instruction tailored to each student’s skill level.
Skill development – From basic floating and strokes to more advanced swimming techniques.
Fitness & endurance – Strengthening overall swimming ability through fun, engaging activities.

Prioritizing Water Safety – Swim Test Implementation

To further ensure student safety, KCDSB implemented a Swim Test in 2018 as part of our Safe Schools procedures. Any student participating in a school field trip involving swimming or water-based activities must complete the Swim Test, ensuring they have the necessary swimming proficiency for a safe and enjoyable experience.

Through our swimming lessons and safety-first approach, we are equipping students with lifelong water safety skills, building confidence, and promoting a love for swimming. With the number of lakes, rivers and access to water in Northwestern Ontario, the Kenora Catholic District School Board has made a firm commitment, for over 30 years, to provide children with the lifesaving skills of swimming lessons.
