Strong math skills build confidence and open doors to future success. Our Math Learning Lead works directly with educators, providing hands-on support, research-based strategies, and professional learning opportunities to enhance math instruction. By working at the elbow with teachers, the Math Learning Lead helps identify student needs, implement effective teaching strategies, and create engaging learning experiences tailored to all students, including those with special education needs.
A Strategic Approach to Math Success
Our Math Achievement Action Plan focuses on three key priorities to ensure high-quality math instruction:
🔹 Know the Curriculum – Supporting educators with professional development, resources, and planning tools that align with Ontario’s math curriculum.
🔹 Know the Math – Using data from EQAO, report cards, and classroom assessments to target areas for growth and strengthen student learning.
🔹 Know the Learner – Identifying student strengths and challenges early using tools like the Early Mathematical Assessment (EMA) and MATmatics Intervention Tool, ensuring targeted support for Grades 1-3 learners.

Innovative Tools & Partnerships
KCDSB thoughtfully integrates resources to enhance math education:
✔ MathUP Classroom – Developed by Dr. Marian Small, this resource equips teachers with engaging lessons and assessment tools.
✔ KnowledgeHook – A technology-driven platform that supports personalized math learning.
✔ Early Mathematical Assessment (EMA) Pilot Project – In partnership with Carleton University, this initiative refines diagnostic tools and data-driven teaching strategies.
Building a Strong Foundation for Success
Through innovative strategies, expert coaching, and a focus on student achievement, KCDSB is equipping students with the skills and confidence to excel in math and beyond.
